Tips for washing wool with soap

Nov 05, 2022

For the best results when washing a sweater or wool blanket with Charlie's Soap in the washing machine, you should follow a specific sequence of operations.

Set the washing machine to delicate water temperature and set the water temperature to cold or cold water

If you are washing a sweater, place the garment in cold water for 5-10 minutes before washing to prevent shrinkage.

Before putting clothes in the washing machine, be sure to put them in a laundry bag to prevent them from snagging—especially cashmere. If you have a washing machine, set the washer to wool cycle, if not, set the washer to fine cycle.

Add the right amount of detergent (we recommend liquid detergent for cold water circulation).

Remove wool garments from the machine as soon as loading is complete.

Gently wring the garment to remove excess moisture, place it in its original shape on a dry towel, and lay flat to dry. We generally do not recommend using a drying rack.

Very effective at removing dirt and odors from wool, you don't have to wash wool fabrics as often. However, we do recommend using a wool conditioner after every 6 or so washes.
