Industrial News | Down Industry Export Value Dropped By 7.4% in July; Import Remained Basically Flat Year-on-Year

Aug 26, 2025

In July 2025, the overall export of the down industry slowed down. The export value was approximately USD 250 million, a year-on-year decrease of 7.4%, marking the first monthly negative growth this year. Except for sleeping bags, which saw both volume and price increase, the export volume of raw down decreased while its price rose; meanwhile, the export volume and value of bedding and garments both declined to varying degrees. Specifically, the export volume of raw down fell by 6.4% year-on-year, but its export value increased by 11.8%, with the average export unit price rising by 19.4%. Looking at the January-July period comprehensively, the total export value of the industry reached approximately USD 1250 million, still maintaining double-digit growth, with a year-on-year increase of 10.2%. The export growth was mainly driven by raw down: during January-July, the export volume of raw down remained stable while its price increased, with the average unit price up by 28.9% and the export value rising by 31.4%. For bedding, the export scale expanded but the unit price decreased slightly-its export volume grew by 10.5% and export value by 8.8%. For garments, both export volume and value decreased, yet the average unit price increased by about 14%.

In July alone, the total import value of the down industry was approximately USD 120 million, a slight year-on-year decrease of 1.0%, with the decline narrowing compared to previous periods. Among specific product categories, the import volume and price of raw down both decreased: its import value dropped by nearly half, and the average import unit price fell by 25.3% year-on-year. In contrast, the import volume of garments continued the growth trend from the previous month, with its import value increasing by 23.5% year-on-year, while the average import unit price decreased by 11.2%.

For the January-July period, the total import value of the industry reached approximately USD 430 million, a year-on-year decrease of 13.8%-the decline narrowed by 3.8 percentage points compared to the January-June period. Specifically, raw down showed a "double contraction in volume and price" trend, with the decline further expanding compared to the first six months: its import volume and import value dropped by 21.9% and 35.0% respectively. For garments, although the import volume increased significantly by 73.6%, the growth of import value was only 2.7%, and the average import unit price fell sharply.
